How Henri Got Involved With the Challenger Division
Henri hesitated when Golden Hill Little League asked for volunteers for the Challenger Division. He was not sure what to expect. He decided to show up anyway. That first visit changed everything.

He kept coming back week after week. He helped athletes swing the bat, run the bases, and field grounders. The Challenger Division players started looking forward to seeing him. Henri started looking forward to seeing them.
Then he noticed there were not enough snacks after practice. He started bringing them himself. When he saw how much that small gesture meant to the athletes, he decided he could do more.
I started off providing snacks for the players after every practice, but once I saw the impact I was having just by bringing snacks, I knew I could do so much more. “Henri Vasquez, Challenger Division Buddy, Golden Hill Little League“
How Henri Raised Over $5,600 for the Program
Henri’s first major fundraising effort covered every Challenger athlete’s registration fee for the season. He raised $3,600, enough to remove the cost barrier for every single player who wanted to participate.

| Initiative | Amount Raised | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| First Fundraiser | $3,600 | Registration fees for every Challenger athlete in the league |
| 2026 Fundraiser | $2,000+ | Equipment upgrades and facility improvements after city compliance requirements |
| Tire Service Business | $5 per car | PSI checks, tread inspection, valve stem caps, tips donated to Challenger program |
| Power Washing Business | Varies | Power washing trash cans , tips donated to Challenger program |
In 2026, the city told Golden Hill Little League that the Snack Shack ice maker, food storage cabinets, and tables were out of compliance. The upgrades fell on the league to fund. Henri responded by raising more than $2,000 to help cover those costs. All Challenger Division athletes must meet official league age requirements. Check our free League Age Calculator to confirm eligibility.
They threw the cost on the league to upgrade it. That prompted Henri to raise more funds to help offset those costs. “Henri’s Father“
What Is the Little League Challenger Division?
The Little League Challenger Division is an adaptive baseball program for children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. It allows players who would otherwise not be able to participate in regular Little League to play baseball in a supportive team environment.
Challenger Buddies are volunteers who pair with Challenger Division athletes during games and practices. They help athletes bat, run bases, field, and experience everything baseball has to offer. Henri has been a Challenger Buddy at Golden Hill Little League for three consecutive years.
Get involved: Any Little League can start a Challenger Division. Parents, players, coaches, and community members can volunteer as Challenger Buddies. Visit LittleLeague.org/Challenger for more information on how to start or join a program near you.
